A long & sad but beautiful read!  The story of a mother’s selfless love. We all need to hear stories like this.  Every mother is capable of this kind of selfless love; they just don’t all know it yet.

The brave mother who gave up her life to save her baby

by BECKY MORRIS, Daily Mail

WHEN Cheryl Anderson was diagnosed with cancer at 32, her one concern was for the unborn child she was carrying. She even refused to take any painkillers except paracetamol, in case they harmed the baby. Her daughter Taylor was born two months ago – tragically, Cheryl died the same day. Here, her husband Leigh, 36, talks to BECKY MORRIS about his courageous wife. . .

TAYLOR ANDERSON was born on August 23 and, in years to come, her birthday, like any much-loved little girl’s, will be marked with cakes, streamers and a pile of presents.

But it will also be a day of sorrow for Taylor and her family. For her birthday is also the day that her mother, Cheryl, died, just hours after she’d used up the last vestiges of her strength in bringing her tiny daughter into the world.

Cheryl, who was only 32, was diagnosed with cancer in May when she was two months pregnant. Her response was utterly selfless, inspired by the strength of the maternal bond. She refused an abortion and even went without pain relief in case it damaged the baby.

Cheryl lived with crippling pain in a desperate race against time, hoping she would stay alive long enough for her baby to be born safely.

At six months, doctors felt time had run out, and performed an emergency Caesarean. Cheryl came round from the anaesthetic for long enough to hear the news that her daughter had survived the traumatic delivery. Hours later, Cheryl slipped away in her husband’s arms.

Today, her husband Leigh, 36, the manager of a construction company, sits in his immaculate house in Newport, South Wales, surrounded by photographs of his wife and their elder daughter, Georgia, four.

‘Cheryl and I had been together for 13 years and I never quite realised how much she did to make Georgia and I happy until she was gone,’ he says.

‘I never felt particularly spiritual before, but now I feel her presence strongly in the house, reassuring me and helping me keep cheerful for the children’s sake.

‘The worst time is at night when I feel so overwhelmed, as though I can’t face another day.’ His voice trails away.

He and Cheryl were, he says, ‘just an ordinary family with very ordinary hopes and fears’.

HE ADDS: ‘We were very much in love, even after all those years together, and were so excited about the prospect of having a second child to complete our family. And then this happened – and suddenly life was terrifying.’

It was one day in May this year that Cheryl asked her GP to check out a small lump on the side of her neck. Both she and Leigh were so confident that it was harmless, that they took Georgia along to the local hospital to pick up the biopsy results.

‘We realized it might be bad news when we noticed several nurses milling around and sensed a strange atmosphere. And when two of them very directly led Georgia away to find a balloon, Cheryl and I looked at each other and at once registered alarm.

‘The specialist came straight to the point. He sat us down and said: “There’s no easy way to say this. I’m afraid we found cancer in the biopsy.î

Leigh pauses to compose himself. ‘We both sat there, utterly stunned. Cheryl was barely out of her 20s – it was the last thing we expected to hear. Yet her reaction was absolutely typical of the way she lived her life. She didn’t think of herself for a second. Her first words were: “But what will happen to my children?î

Cheryl couldn’t have chemotherapy because it would harm her baby – and neither would she consider an abortion, not for religious reasons but because she wanted another child so much. She had such a powerful sense of duty towards the baby that was growing inside her.

Instead, she underwent a major operation that month in which the rapidly growing tumor was removed from her neck.

She then refused all pain relief – she was convinced there would have been a risk, even though doctors told her it was probably safe apart from four paracetamols a day and then battled through 30 exhausting doses of radiotherapy to prolong her life so that she could give Taylor the best possible chance of survival.

Whereas chemotherapy is given intravenously and would be toxic to a developing baby, radiotherapy, an external treatment, allowed for the baby to be shielded from harmful rays.

In the following months, Cheryl was strong enough to care for Georgia and live a fairly normal life. And with every passing week, the hope that her baby would survive grew stronger.

By August, though, Cheryl was growing weaker and was succumbing to the cancer which was spreading through her body.

‘The last two weeks of her life were very, very hard,’ says Leigh. ‘She was at home but getting more tired and weak by the day.

BUT she’d smile when I asked how she was and say she was “not too badî. One day she admitted her back was painful. I know now that, with cancer in her spine, she must have been in absolute agony.

‘She knew that every day she could keep Taylor in her womb, the safer she would be,’ said Leigh. ‘And so she fought with all her might to keep going.’

Gratitude for Mothers

Dear Lord,

Today I turn to you to give you thanks for mothers. With your own gift of life, they bear children in their wombs and give them life. They tenderly, patiently care for their children and teach them to walk and to talk. They read to their children and make them laugh. No one delights in their children’s successes more; no one comforts their children better in their failures. We are so grateful for how our mothers mother us and mentor us, and even discipline us.

Please bless all mothers, Lord, and comfort them. Help their loving hearts to continue to love and give selflessly to others. Strengthen them when they are down and give them hope when they are discouraged.

Most of all, Lord, please give mothers the graces they most need. We ask you this, in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, forever and ever.  Amen.

Excerpt from: The Story of Jonathan Davidson published by Spiritus Films, April 27, 2015

www.scribd.com/doc/263188202/Chapter-4-the-story-of-Jonathan-Davidson

“And all of those moments and those people eventually led to Deborah Edge and her fellow late-

term abortion workers who saw a man in a suit praying and thought, “Wow…what dedication to

God.”

The glory is God’s dedication to Deborah Edge and to the man that God sent, and all the people

that prayed leading up to that moment. This happens every day, but we don’t know the series of

events that were orchestrated by God to rescue and redeem His children. There are so many other

Deborah’s who are waiting for someone to answer God’s call and stand outside of their clinic

and pray.

And there are so many Jonathan’s waiting to be fed God’s Word and to become His faithful servants. So many young men and women who are thirsty for the truth.

All of these blessings occur when God’s warriors show up.

And that includes many of you who are reading this book. Thank you for your sacrifice and your persistence. Your hard work is paying dividends, even if you never see the faces of all the people who were touched by your willingness to serve God.

God has a specific plan that involves specific people – including you.

It’s a blessing to be in a pro-life movement. It’s a blessing to stand beside God and watch His

miracles unfold. I hope this story will motivate you to continue in your work, especially for those who are weary, or to start anew if you’ve been wounded and on the sidelines. Our God is famous for second chances!

And our God is victorious.”

“Let us not grow tired of doing good, for in due time we shall reap our harvest, if we do not give  up.” Galations 6:9

MORE PRAYERS ANSWERED BY GOD ON THE SIDEWALK

A story from one or our Prayer Warriors from Thursday, 4/23/15 –

“While out there during the 11:00 hour I had the privilege of talking with two young women who arrived together and were just about to enter the Planned Parenthood doors.  With special thanks to The Holy Spirit, and to a fellow Prayer Warrior’s prayers, they listened to my short message about the Women’s Care Center, and came down the sidewalk, with one asking me if they had the emergency contraception (I think those were her words).  I can’t remember exactly what I said, but suggested that they go over and see what might be available to them.  Leaving their car in the parking lot they walked over to the Women’s Care Center, and were inside for quite a long time.  I stayed until they came out, which was around 12:15.  They came over to me, and the one girl, with tears in her eyes, said “Thank You” . . .  I gave them a few things, including some Holy Cards.  They were very appreciative and left without going into Planned Parenthood.   We were happy that their visit to Planned Parenthood’s facility turned out to be to The Women’s Care Center instead . . .  Thanks Be To God”

Lord, I pray today for every unborn child. The beauty of the bodies and souls of these children flows from your hands and your eternal plan. Awaken in every human conscience a profound reverence for human life, and grant us grace to defend our smallest and most defenseless brothers and sisters, those still being formed in the secret places of their mothers’ womb. Christ is risen!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!

We hope that you are all continuing to celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus!

We just found out some more good news!  Here it is as reported by Shawn Carney of 40 Days for Life:

BREAKING NEWS: Two of the three abortion facilities where 40 Days for Life campaigns have been held in the metropolitan Mexico City area were just shut down.

One was the nation’s leading abortion center, a Marie Stopes facility in the Roma neighborhood. It was shut down by the government for numerous violations, following the just-completed 40 Days for Life campaign, and the building is now plastered with giant infringement signs.

The second abortion facility, in Coyoacan, abruptly closed on its own and has now been removed from the Marie Stopes abortion chain website.

The local 40 Days for Life prayer volunteers are thanking God for these developments … and praying that these closures remain permanent.

PRAYERS FOR ABORTION FACILITIES TO CLOSE ARE BEING ANSWERED!  We are always hopeful that the Planned Parenthood on Orin Rd. in Madison will be the next one to close its doors.  The breaking news above tells us that God works through prayer warriors witnessing for the GOSPEL OF LIFE outside of abortion facilities.  We have MANY open hours this week.  Your prayerful presence is URGENTLY needed.

MORE PRAYERS ANSWERED BY GOD

One of our prayer warrior/sidewalk counselors relayed a story of prayers answered this past week.  When he was on the sidewalk this past Tuesday, he spoke with a woman who was at Planned Parenthood.  The woman said she remembered him from having spoke with him last year on that same sidewalk.

Last year, she was there with a daughter.  This sidewalk counselor had reminded them that, “God loves you”.   Five minutes later the mother & daughter went over to the Woman’s Care Center across the street.  Our prayer warrior/ sidewalk counselor had always prayed for the women to choose life for the baby and had often wondered if he would ever know of the outcome before his next life.

Our prayer warrior/sidewalk counselor asked the woman if life was chosen.  She confirmed that, “Yes” life had been chosen and she now had a grandchild.  The baby was born on January 23rd (one day after the Roe v. Wade anniversary).  She also confirmed that when our prayer warrior/sidewalk counselor reminded them that “God loves you” had a lot to do with them leaving Planned Parenthood and going over to the Women’s Care Center.

Our prayer warrior/sidewalk counselor was overcome with joy upon hearing this news and praised God!  In his own words: “I began to cry and hugged her and told her that I have been praying that that girl went through with keeping the baby and I often wondered about her. I thought I may never know till the next life.”

Also, in his own words: “Thank you God for letting her choose life. I want  to welcome Vance (the baby’s name) into this worId.   I’m not taking credit for anything but you know we have to speak up and three words changed that girl’s mind. … ‘God loves you’. And you know what? It’s true .God does love her. He loves us all .Please go out to Planned Parenthood and pray and witness .Please. …. everybody! Thank you for letting me share my testimony. I love you all .God bless you. And pray to end abortion!”

Some encouraging words from a few current 40 Days for Life Spring Campaigns…

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

“I just found out that a young woman who had an abortion scheduled at Planned Parenthood did not go through with it,” said Nikki, the local 40 Days for Lifeleader in Pittsburgh.

“She didn’t want an abortion, but finally succumbed to the steady pressure of her boyfriend, made the appointment and went to Planned Parenthood,” she said.

But when this woman saw the volunteers praying, she decided not to do it.

One of the people praying was a priest, who was joined by several members of his parish. “I believe seeing clergy and religious at our vigil sends a powerful statement to reach people’s consciences,” Nikki said. “Thank you to all the pastors who have made the time in their busy schedules to witness at our vigil!”

Tucson, Arizona

Matt in Tucson tells of a woman who parked her car near the prayer volunteers … and got out with a huge smile on her face. At first, she just asked, “What are you doing out here?”

The volunteers said not everyone is aware of this, but the building they’re in front of is an abortion center. “We are praying for everyone going in there today … and for an end to abortion.”

“I actually just came from the clinic,” she said, “and I had a sonogram. I am about eight weeks along and my fiancé doesn’t even know I’m here.” He was very much against the abortion, she said. “I’ve changed my mind now and I’m going to keep the baby!”

The volunteers gave her information about local pregnancy resources and told her to get in touch if they can help in any way.

“This reminded us of the importance of being out there,” Matt said. “Let us continue to pray for her.”

Stories from the sidewalk

Last week. while on the sidewalk in front of Planned Parenthood in Madison, a man stopped his truck in the middle of the street, rolled down his window and the woman with him yelled out to us, “I chose adoption.”  Isn’t that beautiful?  She loved her baby so much that she chose life for her baby and because she didn’t feel ready to parent she chose adoption!  Adoption is such a courageous and beautiful choice!

Prayer for Holy Week

Jesus, my Lord and Savior, please help strengthen my courage by giving me the courage of all those people who have been “centurions” for me. Many have faced disasters and hard times with great faith and constancy. The upper hand of evil never turned them against you. They kept going. Let me be like them, my Lord Jesus. No matter what the cross, let me never stop declaring you to be “truly the Son of God”, the One who died to save me from my sins, the source of all my hope, the reason why I will never quit defending life. I pray this in your Most Holy Name.  Amen.

HOW CAN I REMAIN SILENT?

By: Anna

Virginia, United States

Twenty-one years ago, I aborted my baby.  I knew it was wrong with every fiber of my being.  I was 17 years old, a senior in high school and already a teenage mother; my oldest daughter was one year old at the time.  I regret every single day what I did to my baby and wish every day I could take it back, but I cannot.

Unlike some, I grew up in a Christian home, raised to know better, yet, I did it anyway; I was afraid.  I was afraid of the reaction of my family and friends forputting myself in this predicament once again.  I was afraid of my child’s father because, when I was pregnant with my first child, he became abusive.  He was adamant about not having the baby.  He drove me to the clinic and paid foreverything.  I remembering feeling alone, and I just wanted him to say everything would be fine if I kept the baby.

Everything about that day seems like a blur, but I remember the exact location, the room, the sound of that awful machine that sucked my baby away, and the silence I endured within afterwards because I felt I had no one to turn to.  I felt so empty and sad, left to deal with my own self-torture.

This past year I received the healing I refused for so long by attending a Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat, and if I can help heal another’s wound by letting them know about my baby, my faults and the Power in the Blood of Jesus, then how can remain silent?

Today I speak publicly for the first time about my daughter, who I named Jesse Grace.  It is not easy because I hate what I did to her.  If I could have only been stronger back then, she would be here now.  I am sure any anger and sadness that may have occurred would have subsided by now because it has been 21 years!

I function because I know she resides in My Father’s loving arms, and I have the Hope in my heart that eagerly waits for the day I finally get to meet her and hold her myself.  Therefore, until that day I will remain Silent No More in Jesse’s honor, always.

Prayer for Abortionists and Their Staffs

– by Jean M. Heimann

Lord, we lift up to you all abortionists and their staffs, including all technicians, nurses, receptionists, counselors, chaplains, and all who are employed or voluntarily assisting with the killing of the unborn in any way.  We place each one of them in the innermost recessess of Your Sacred Heart — Your Heart of Mercy, compassion and love for all Your children.

We pray that they will accept the supernatural graces that You give them this day to renounce the horrific killing of Your children; the psychological, physical, and spiritual harm they are doing to the women through their actions; and the tremendous spiritual, physical and psychological harm they are doing to themselves.

Give them an abundance of courage and strength and the desire to say “no” to murder and to escape the culture of death and the constant torment and resentment that they experience in their lives.

As they approach You, encourage them to draw nearer, remove the veil that covers their eyes and blinds them to the truth.  Pour out Your tender, loving mercy upon them that they will see the truth, the reality, and the consequences of their actions.  Draw them into the light of Your love and penetrate their souls with the light of truth, the light of Your knowledge, wisdom, and understanding.

We pray this in the holy name of Jesus, through the intercession of our Blessed Virgin Mary.

For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on them and on the whole world.

St. Gianna Beretta Molla, pray for them.
Blessed Anna Maria Taige, pray for them.
Pope John Paul, the Great, pray for them.

“America needs no words from me to see how your decision in Roe v. Wade has deformed a great nation. The so-called right to abortion has pitted mothers against their children and women against men. It has sown violence and discord at the heart of the most intimate human relationships. It has aggravated the derogation of the father’s role in an increasingly fatherless society. It has portrayed the greatest of gifts — a child — as a competitor, an intrusion, and an inconvenience. It has nominally accorded mothers unfettered dominion over the independentlives of their physically dependent sons and daughters”

“And, in granting this unconscionable power, it has exposed many women to unjust and selfish demands from their husbands or other sexual partners. Human rights are not a privilege conferred by government. They are every human being’s entitlement by virtue of his humanity. The right to life does not depend, and must not be declared to be contingent, on the pleasure of anyone else, not even a parent or a sovereign.”

O Mary, Mother of Jesus and Mother of us all, we turn to you today as the one who said “Yes” to Life. “You will conceive and bear a Son,” the angel told you. Despite the surprise and the uncertainty about how this could be, you said yes. “Be it done unto me according to your word.”

Mary, we pray today for all mothers who are afraid to be mothers. We pray for those who feel threatened and overwhelmed by their pregnancy. Please intercede for them, that God may give them the grace to say yes and the courage to go on. May they have the grace to reject the false solution of abortion. May they say with you, “Be it done unto me according to your word.” May they experience the help of Christian people, and know the peace that comes from doing God’s will.
Amen.

“Our final destiny is heaven – not the grave!  This means that the power of abortion – which takes more life than anything else – has also been broken.  Our pro-life movement does not simply work for victory – we work from victory!  Victory is our starting point.  We joyfully proclaim to the world that Christ is Risen, and that for this reason, we must choose life.

We then work to apply that victory to every sector of society.

The labor is intense and the obstacles many.  But we do not cower before the culture of death and wonder how we will ever overcome it.  Rather, we stand before it with victorious confidence and declare:

“Begone! You have no room here! No place here! No further authority to menace the human family!”

“Your kingdom has been conquered and Christ reigns supreme!”

Excerpt from “Keep the Fire Burning” by Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life

Lord, we are yours.  Thank you for breathing into us the breath of life.  Thank you for claiming us as your own.  May our words and actions in defense of human life proclaim to all the world that you alone are Lord of life and death, Lord of our freedom and of our choices.  We pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Cardinal Sean O’Malley in his homily at this year’s Mass for Life at the March for Life explained the need for pro-lifers to embrace a love-based approach:

“We shall overcome the indifference only by love. A love that will allow us to see in every unborn child a precious gift, a fellow human being.”

“Christ has given us the formula for joy in the Gospel. We must learn to look on people with love. An attitude of judgmental self righteousness is not going to change peoples’ attitudes and save babies.”

“To change people’s hearts we must love them and they must realize that we care about them. They need the witness of our love and our joy. To evangelize is to be a messenger of joy, of good news.”

“We must work tirelessly to change the unjust laws, but we must work even harder to change hearts, to build a civilization of love. Solidarity and community are the antidotes to the individualism and alienation that lead people on the path of abortion and euthanasia.”

Reminder to all Prayer Warriors and Sidewalk Counselors

1.  If another Prayer Warrior or Sidewalk Counselor is engaged in a conversation with a person going into or coming out of Planned Parenthood, please do not interrupt or join in the conversation unless you are invited to do so.

2.  If people going into or coming out of Planned Parenthood yell at you or say unkind things when not in a conversation with you, please remember to “turn the other cheek”.  Truly, it is best not to respond at all; not even to say, “We are praying for you.”  Any response at all usually only increases their anger.  Please pray for them silently however no need to yell it out to them.

3.  Remember that this is a mission of love.  As Cardinal O’ Malley said – “To change people’s hearts we must love them and they must realize that we care about them. They need the witness of our love and our joy. To evangelize is to be a messenger of joy, of good news.”

4.  We are on the sidewalk to help those who are lost and/or hurting.  Be friendly and caring! As St. Paul said, we must “put on love” before coming to the sidewalk!

Prayer for Life

O God, our Creator, all life is in your hands from conception until natural death. Help us to cherish our children and to reverence the awesome privilege of our share in creation. May all people live and die in dignity and love. Bless all those who defend the rights of the unborn, the handicapped and the aged. Enlighten and be merciful toward those who fail to love, and give them peace. Let freedom be tempered by responsibility, integrity and morality. We ask this through Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

Emergency Prayer Vigil – Sunday, Feb 22

Dear Lovers of Life,

Please join us for an emergency prayer vigil this Sunday, Feb. 22nd from 2p-3:30p (or any time in between those times) on the sidewalk  outside of Planned Parenthood, 3706 Orin Rd., Madison.  Planned Parenthood will be “celebrating” their 10th anniversary with an open house on Sunday, Feb. 22nd from 2p-3:30p.  Our presence will be a peaceful, prayerful one – not a loud protest.  We will have signs for people to hold if they wish and literature educating people on the evil that Planned Parenthood is if you would like to hand it out to attendees to their open house. (Therefore, please do not bring your own signs or your own literature to hand out.)

Let us bring our love for life and our witness to the eternal value of life to the sidewalk this Sunday!

We hope to see you there.

Many blessings,

The Team at Vigil for Life

P.S.  Yes, bring your children!  This is definitely a family prayer vigil!
