O Mary, Mother of Jesus and Mother of us all, we turn to you today as the one who said “Yes” to Life. “You will conceive and bear a Son,” the angel told you. Despite the surprise and the uncertainty about how this could be, you said yes. “Be it done unto me according to your word.”
Mary, we pray today for all mothers who are afraid to be mothers. We pray for those who feel threatened and overwhelmed by their pregnancy. Intercede for them, that God may give them the grace to say yes and the courage to go on. May they have the grace to reject the false solution of abortion. May they say with you, “Be it done unto me according to your word.” May they experience the help of Christian people, and know the peace that comes from doing God’s will. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Planned Parenthood Madison East to End Contraceptive Services, Do Abortions Only

MADISON, WI (April 22, 2016) – Pro-Life Wisconsin has learned from reliable sources that the Madison East Planned Parenthood is planning to transition from its mix of contraceptive and abortion services to offering abortion services exclusively. The change in service model is expected to occur within the next two months. Pro-Life Wisconsin State Director Dan Miller offered the following comments:

“Planned Parenthood is showing its true colors – red and green, blood and money. They claim abortion is a very minor percentage of their total services while touting contraception as the key to reducing abortion. And now its Madison East affiliate is preparing to dump its contraception service to focus, or rather profit, solely on abortion. Their hypocrisy is unsurpassable.

“Pro-Life Wisconsin strongly opposes contraceptive drugs and devices because they harm women and cause early chemical abortions. We will be happy to see the Madison East Planned Parenthood scrap this ‘service.’ At the same time, the move exposes Planned Parenthood’s relentless and heartless obsession with profiting off the killing of preborn babies.

“Pro-Life Madisonians, through our Dane County affiliate Vigil for Life, will pray and sidewalk counsel ceaselessly until the Madison Planned Parenthood killing center shutters it doors. May that day come very soon – before they ramp up their abortion program and destroy even more mothers, fathers and babies.”

23 open hours all week

I just read a story about a woman who went to an abortion facility for an abortion, hoping someone would be there praying. That would be her sign not to go through with it. No one was there.

As she waited for her appointment, she kept looking out the window for that sign — just one person praying outside. Her name was called and she looked again. Still no one. She went through with the abortion.
Just one person standing there praying would have saved a life that day.
Please commit to spend time in prayer at Planned Parenthood on Orin Rd. in Madison. Even just an hour a month could save a life.

Prayer for All Pro-life People
Help all pro-life people to realize that we, as pro-life people, share humanity with pro-abortion people, and that we need to be compassionate in our calling as pro-lifers. Give us the strength to be firm in our stances, while at the same time walk humbly with You. Remind all people that responding to the violence of abortion with other acts of violence is unacceptable and sinful. Remind us that prayer and repentance from our own sins is our greatest weapon against the evil of abortion. Bless us in our efforts to serve You Lord. Continue to send your Mother and ours, Mary, to protect us in the safety of her mantel. Fill us with your Holy Spirit so that we have the compassion and the words to change minds, hearts, and souls. Thank you Lord. We pray this in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

19 Open hours for this week

4/8/16 – New York, NY — Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, issued the following statement this morning:

“All of us at Priests for Life welcome the document issued today by Pope Francis called “Amoris Laetitia” (“The Joy of Love”), which summarizes his teaching following the two worldwide synods of bishops held in the last two years on the topic of the family.

“We encourage all the clergy and laity to carefully read, study, discuss and apply this document, which repeats the Church’s teaching on life, marriage and family, and urges all of us to encourage one another with compassion and care as we strive to live that teaching.

“In regard to our own ministry in defense of the unborn, we thank the Holy Father for the beautiful words of this document about pregnancy and motherhood, in particular the following passage:

“Every child growing within the mother’s womb is part of the eternal loving plan of God the Father: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you” (Jer1:5). Each child has a place in God’s heart from all eternity; once he or she is conceived, the Creator’s eternal dream comes true. Let us pause to think of the great value of that embryo from the moment of conception. We need to see it with the eyes of God, who always looks beyond mere appearances.” (n. 168)

He states in section 83, “Here I feel it urgent to state that, if the family is the sanctuary of life, the place where life is conceived and cared for, it is a horrendous contradiction when it becomes a place where life is rejected and destroyed. So great is the value of a human life, and so inalienable the right to life of an innocent child growing in the mother’s womb, that no alleged right to one’s own body can justify a decision to terminate that life, which is an end in itself and which can never be considered the “property” of another human being.”

“The Holy Father also encourages adoption, stating, “Adopting a child is an act of love, offering the gift of a family to someone who has none.” N. 179

Finally, since our Director of African-American Outreach is Evangelist Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King, Jr., we were happy to see Dr King quoted in this document, in the section where the Pope encourages a love that faces up to all difficulties. Part of the quote from Dr King reads, “And when you come to the point that you look in the face of every man and see deep down within him what religion calls ‘the image of God’, you begin to love him in spite of . No matter what he does, you see God’s image there.” N. 118

Priests for Life will continue to reflect and teach on this document in the days and months to come.

Please bring your joy and love to the sidewalk this week.

Only with prayer – prayer that storms the heavens for justice and mercy, prayer that cleanses our hearts and souls – will the culture of death that surrounds us today be replaced with a culture of life.” -Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities, U.S. Catholic Bishops

LITANY TO MARY, MOTHER OF LIFE

The Response is: Mary, pray for us.

Mary, Mother of all Life,
help us to respect human life from the moment of conception
to the moment of natural death. R.

Mary, Mother of Compassion,
You showed us how valuable a single life can be;
Help us to guard and protect the lives of all people entrusted to our care. R.

Mary, Mother of the Child Jesus,
with St. Joseph you formed the Holy Family.
Guard and protect all families in this earthly life; R.

Mary, Mother Most Holy,
You sanctified the vocation of motherhood;
Pour out your heavenly aid on all mothers and help them to be holy. R.

Mary, Mother of Sorrows,
Simeon’s prophecy foretold that a sword of suffering would pierce your heart;
Bring comfort and hope to all mothers who suffer over their children. R.

Mary, Full of Grace,
You had a choice in responding to God’s call;
Help us always to say “Yes” to the will of God in our lives,
And strive always to do whatever he tells us. R.

Mary, Comforter of the Afflicted,
Pour forth your heavenly grace on all who are in need of God’s healing,
Especially those involved in abortion;
Help them to experience the love and mercy of Christ, your Son. R.

Mary, Intercessor and Advocate,
We lift up the poor, the displaced, the marginalized and vulnerable members of society;
Help them to never abandon hope, but to place their trust in the God who gave them life. R.

Mary, Mother of the Word Incarnate, you bore in your womb him whom the heavens cannot contain;
Help us to bear witness to Christ by the example of our lives
And show the world the extravagant love of God. R.

All:
Remember, o most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, we fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, our Mother. To you we come, before you we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer them. Amen.

16 open hours on Wednesday, 4/6 – An Abortion Day

For most women, the decision to have an abortion is agonizing. The choice is marked by confusion, wracked by despair, plagued by helplessness, and crippled by anxiety.

How do we care for such women? Pope John Paul II, in his encyclical Evangelum Vitae (The Gospel of Life), addresses women who have had abortions: “The Church is aware of the many factors which may have influenced your decision, and she does not doubt in many cases it was a painful and even shattering decision,” the Pope writes.

“The wound in your heart may not yet have healed. Certainly what happened was and remains terribly wrong. But do not give in to discouragement and do not lose hope. Try rather to understand what happened and face it honestly. If you have not already done so, give yourselves over with humility and trust to repentance. The Father of Mercies is ready to give you His forgiveness and His peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. You will come to understand that nothing is definitively lost and you will also be able to ask forgiveness from your child, who is now living in the Lord” (99).

In short, Divine Mercy is the answer.

Marie Romagnano, RN, founder of Healthcare Professionals for Divine Mercy, an apostolate of the Marians of the Immaculate Conception, has developed a set of guidelines for providing care in this oft-misunderstood health crisis, which is also a profound spiritual crisis.

“Mothers who have experienced abortion are catastrophically emotionally injured and do not recognize this injury to their soul,” Nurse Marie says. “They can recognize physical injury but avoid the deep, interior pain of the loss of the child within them. There is no natural recovery from this wound. Only the mercy of God can intercede. God’s mercy is endless, boundless, and has no limits.”

What should you do if a suffering mother approaches you?

“Be available to talk,” Nurse Marie advises. “Be supportive and assist wherever possible with food, shelter, and safe harbor. Mercy in action is the best possible intervention to initiate healing. Encourage this suffering mother to place great trust in the mercy of God, for there is no sin that cannot be forgiven.”

For the woman who has not had an abortion but is considering one, Marie advises to pray The Divine Mercy Chaplet with her. If that’s not possible, then pray the Chaplet for her. You can also discuss the mercy of God with her.

“Tell her how Jesus, The Divine Mercy, will directly intervene to assist her in her situation, no matter what the circumstances are, in preserving the life of her child,” Marie says. “Jesus will give her the grace to bring the child safely into the world.”

This act of mercy can save two lives: the physical life of the child and the spiritual life of the mother. As Jesus tells us, “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful” (Lk 6:36).

PSALM 51

Have mercy on me, God, in accord with your merciful love;
in your abundant compassion blot out my transgressions.
4
Thoroughly wash away my guilt;
and from my sin cleanse me.
5
For I know my transgressions;
my sin is always before me.b
6
Against you, you alone have I sinned;
I have done what is evil in your eyes
So that you are just in your word,
and without reproach in your judgment.c
7
Behold, I was born in guilt,
in sin my mother conceived me.
8
Behold, you desire true sincerity;
and secretly you teach me wisdom.
9
Cleanse me with hyssop,* that I may be pure;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
10
You will let me hear gladness and joy;
the bones you have crushed will rejoice.
11
Turn away your face from my sins;
blot out all my iniquities.
12
A clean heart create for me, God;
renew within me a steadfast spirit.f
1
Do not drive me from before your face,
nor take from me your holy spirit.g
14
Restore to me the gladness of your salvation;
uphold me with a willing spirit.
15
I will teach the wicked your ways,
that sinners may return to you.
16
Rescue me from violent bloodshed, God, my saving God,
and my tongue will sing joyfully of your justice.h
17
Lord, you will open my lips;
and my mouth will proclaim your praise.
18
For you do not desire sacrifice* or I would give it;
a burnt offering you would not accept.i
19
My sacrifice, O God, is a contrite spirit;
a contrite, humbled heart, O God, you will not scorn.

HE IS RISEN! ALLELUIA!

Note from Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life:
“On this day of days, on this feast of feasts, we rejoice in the victory of life! This victory is not just a hope; it is a fact. God, in Christ, has destroyed the power of death! In all its forms — including abortion — death can never have the final word!

This is why we are pro-life, and the victory of this day is the starting point and foundation of the pro-life movement. The gift of life, placed in our hands today, is what we proclaim, celebrate, and serve. We announce and apply this victory to every segment of our society. We say to our culture, in effect, “Hurry up! God has accomplished His work, and we must run to share in its fruit! God’s design for life is unfolding in a definitive way, and this is our chance to catch hold of it and participate in it!”

To all of you who defend life, I wish a Happy Easter with a special joy, knowing that I speak to those who understand Easter most profoundly and live it most intensely. Never doubt the victory of life, and always find in the resurrection your strength to continue defending this greatest of all gifts!”

Please bring your Easter Joy to the sidewalk this week.

An Easter Prayer for Life

Lord Jesus Christ,
You are the Author of Life,
Who died and now lives forevermore.

May we who work and pray
That children in the womb may be protected
Always draw strength, confidence, and joy
From Your victory over death,

For you are Lord forever and ever. Amen.

11 open hours on Saturday, 3/26

Every activity we undertake in defense of the sanctity of life is prophetic, inasmuch as it points to the day when “death will be no more.”

Every victory we have when an act of abortion is prevented is prophetic of that day when death itself will be definitively conquered.

Every triumph of grace in this world, whereby someone is brought to see the value of life and given the strength to welcome it, is a breaking into our history of that definitive future in which the old order of things will have passed, and all things will be made new.

As pro-life warriors, we must keep our eyes fixed on heaven, and our hearts secure in the hope that the day is coming when all evil will be conquered. It is the future that shapes the present; it is victory that informs the battle; it is the destination that determines the journey.

Daily, we are called to reflect on heaven. When we weep, we are to think of the day when every tear will be wiped away.

When we face the destructive power of death, we are to think of the day when death is swallowed up in victory.

When we labor against abortion, we are to think of the day when we will have the rest and peace of the final triumph of life.

Heaven is as real as earth, and its joys will be as real as our present sorrows.

Looking for an extra sacrifice to make for Lent? Time spent in prayer during Holy Week on the sidewalk planting good seeds might be your answer!
“We can think of Lent as a time to eradicate evil or cultivate virtue, a time to pull up weeds or to plant good seeds. Which is better is clear, for the Christian ideal is always positive rather than negative. A person is great not by the ferocity of his hatred of evil, but by the intensity of his love for God. Asceticism and mortification are not the ends of a Christian life; they are only the means. The end is charity. Penance merely makes an opening in our ego in which the Light of God can pour. As we deflate ourselves, God fills us. And it is GOD’s arrival that is the important event.” -Fulton J. Sheen

Prayer By: Fr. Frank Pavone, Priests for Life

Father, you are the God of hope. Your word fills us with the vision of the world to come, when every tear will be wiped away, and death will be no more. Father, how we need that hope, how we are strengthened by that vision!

Keep our hearts focused on heaven, and diligent in the labors of earth. As we struggle against the culture of death, root our souls in the assurance of victory. We pray through Christ our Lord, Amen.

9 open hours on Thursday, March 17th – Please sign up today!

Dear Friends of Life –

May we absorb the truth that God is paying attention to us, and to each human life, personally and individually.

Scripture

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor.

— Psalm 8:3-9

Reflection from Fr. Terry Gensemer

How often we ignore the phrase, “stop and smell the roses” and instead submit to the all-too-urgent task at hand. Is this tendency what keeps us, at least in part, from acknowledging that God’s care for His sacred creation is paramount in His own mind?

The Psalmist speaks of God’s handiwork: the heavens, the work of his “fingers,” and then points to God’s masterpiece – human life. He declares to us that God is mindful of us. God keeps His masterpiece in His thoughts.

God, the creator of the awe-inspiring heavens, is not distracted by the tasks before Him. He is not pulled away, as we might be, by thoughts of something “more important.”

God is paying attention to and attending to His crowning glory, His masterpiece of creation, which cannot be duplicated or replaced, which surpasses the beauty of all other created things – the human being.

There is no way to adequately describe how God feels about us as human beings. There are no words to fully portray His love, compassion or desire to be in communion with us.

Perhaps, the closest we can come, is to contemplate the thoughts of a mother as she gazes for the first time at her newborn child. God cares for Life.

We, as His followers, should take time to consider the life He has created and called upon us to love and protect.

Please bring your consideration for life to the sidewalk this week!

Looking for an extra sacrifice to make for Lent? Time spent in prayer every week on the sidewalk (in the cold) planting good seeds might be your answer!
Sheen

6 OPEN HOURS ON TUESDAY, 3/9 – That’s TOMORROW – AN ABORTION DAY

Dear Friends of Life –

Some words from the current 40 Days for Life campaign in Green Bay: The Green Bay team recently received an appreciative note from a worker at the pregnancy help center.

“I want to thank you for all the prayers and sacrifices, especially enduring the cold weather and wind,” she wrote. “Know that there are fruits to all that you do.”

She then told of a young woman who came in for a pregnancy test last year. She broke down when she learned she was pregnant – and even after seeing the ultrasound image, she was still terribly afraid.

“I told her we would be with her all the way through it,” the counselor said, “and told her about the prayer warriors of 40 Days for Life who were praying for all mothers and their unborn babies. It was a tough pregnancy for her, but I always reminded her of the prayers being said for her.”

Not long ago, her baby was born.

“There was such joy and love in the room for that baby,” she said. “Your prayers certainly changed a heart, and a little boy not only has life, he is loved. I consider all of you godparents.”

Praise God! More good news: The Women’s Care Center in Madison is currently guiding 150 pregnant mothers through their pregnancies! Of course, we do not know how many of these 150 mothers were helped by your presence – you can be assured that your prayerful presence on the sidewalk does matter immensely!

Prayer
By: Ernest Ohlhoff, Outreach Director for National Right to Life

O Lord, help us follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Let us humbly and diligently work to restore legal protection for the unborn, the disabled, the medically dependent and all innocent children of God whose lives are threatened. Let us remember the old adage that “He can never lead who has not first learned to obey.” And, Lord, grant us a peaceful heart as we labor in your name. Amen.
