Saved baby! Prayer Countdown to 40 Days for Life: Day 7!

Dear Friends,

Let us add to our prayer below for inspiration and strength for 40 Days for Life, a prayer of thanksgiving for the GLORY REPORT received yesterday!

As two regularly scheduled prayer warriors offered up a Chaplet of Divine Mercy for the MANY going into Planned Parenthood, they looked up to see a cloud formation in the shape of a baby. A short time later, they said their eyes were again drawn up to see the baby’s head cradled in a hand….the hand of the Almighty!

God’s providence was later manifested when 3 girls, who had entered Planned Parenthood, emerged and thanked them for praying for them. They witnessed them kneeling on the sidewalk and, the one who was pregnant and already had 2 children, decided to keep her baby! Praise God!

She was encouraged to go to the Women’s Care Center but walked away. Later another prayer warrior reported that she returned there to seek help.

WE NEED TO PRAY FOR HER – FOR STRENGTH AND COURAGE AS SHE BECOMES A MOTHER OF 3. PRAISE GOD!!

Let us prepare ourselves in prayer for the start of 40 Days for Life (in 7 days!), asking for the Holy Spirit to inspire and strengthen us!

Let us pray,

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of Your love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

Thou, of all consolers best, Visiting the troubled breast, Dost refreshing peace bestow.
Come, O Blessed Spirit of Piety, possess my heart. Enkindle therein such a love for God, that I may find satisfaction only in His service, and for His sake lovingly submit to all legitimate authority. Amen.

VFL email 9.15.2013

Dear Friends,

Do you remember the 16 year-old mother (now 17) for whom we prayed so hard last winter, that she and the baby’s father would choose life over abortion? I received the glorious news on Friday that their son was born last Wednesday! Below is a shortened email from the counselor who spent so much time, energy, and prayer with these young parents. It is edited somewhat because of length but not so much that you miss her message – Praise God for hearing these pleas for mercy and thank you for your prayers!

“I am sorry getting this email out ‘late’ to everyone, but as some of you know, I have been busy the past few days. On Wednesday I was….sitting in a chair with a ton of excitement and love waiting to hear that our little baby was born and 100% saved from abortion. As I sat there on the chair I thought of you all and that you have a hand in the saving of this baby, along with the learning and growing the young parents have done. Without your prayers that gave so much strength to me when I needed it and without your prayers for the mother and the baby, I would have never been in that chair, experiencing one of the best anticipation moments I have ever had and probably will ever have again.

Donovan was born at 7:26am on 9-11-13. He weighed 9 lbs 6.5 oz and 20.5 inches long. With the cutest little dimple on his chin, just like his pretty mama and adorable daddy.

I am a person of many words, phrases, explanations – but when I saw this little baby, brand new and squirming, crying out with life, I had my words taken from me – there are no words to explain that feeling. It is much like how you feel having your own baby born, but more and different. Maybe it was Grace I felt, I don’t know, but whatever it was, everyone should experience it. It sounds silly, but maybe it is a little like what Heaven feels like… My urge to hold him close was great and although I have tried to stay humbled about this experience I could not help but think, with the support of many…. I was part of the reason why he was alive, kicking and screaming and perfect.

The scheduled C-section went well for the mother, the dad said she was amazing and strong (as I knew she would be) and when she was finally brought into the room with our little DJ, my heart ached for her and bursted with pride. I know the pain of the C-section, but then to think of myself at 17 going through this experience, how can we not think only but AMAZING things about her!? And the father, what an amazing, loving, doting, caring, thankful young man. A young man that has some heartache of his own and struggles of his own, but pushes those things to the side and puts the young mother ALWAYS first, whether it is first through the door into a room or first in his thoughts and concerns. He is a wonderful guy, completely at ease with children… I am so proud of them, both of these young kids.

While keeping focus on the young mother and how she was feeling, this little baby I have loved since the moment I saw his little 7 week old squirming body on the ultrasound machine was in my arms…. although I feared I would be wild with tears and emotions, I felt calm and love in a motherly way.

As I left the hospital after being there for 10+ hours, the young dad was with me as he was running out to grab a few things, we waited for the elevator along with one of his close friends he said to me “well Marcy, you have been with us since the very beginning, how does it feel to be here now?” … I told him “There are no words, buddy… I can’t even tell you how excited I am to be here with you guys and how proud I am of you!” His friend, maybe confused about what it meant to say I was there since the beginning, was told by the young father about them considering abortion, but how we worked together and decided not to.

The mom is recovering very well and the baby is doing great. He is sweet and easy, not much of a crier and makes the most amazingly cute humming/grunting sounds I have ever heard. Things are as good as they can be within these moments.

I want to thank you all again. I hope that as we have journeyed this together and experienced this, it has given you hope and inspiration to do the same… God blessed me with this mom and this father and this baby…. there were moments of great fear and not knowing what to expect, but I reminded myself I was just a vessel and the difficult moments were eased with prayer and focus and the moments of happiness God has given to me to enjoy with more feeling and more ability to be aware and clear. If anyone ever has the chance to help a young mother, never be afraid, never think you can’t do it – know that is only the devil getting in the way of God’s call to you.”

When we are on the sidewalks of Planned Parenthood, we are praying for many such as these. We may never have a close and personal experience as this counselor but we CAN have the same outcome! In fact, most of the time we will never know the good we’ve done. That’s ok; it’s not about us anyway. SO… COME OUT!…. PRAY HARD!…. SAVE LIVES!

This past Saturday, Sept. 14th, about 20 participated in a prayer service at St. Michael’s in Dane, WI, the Madison-area location for the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children. We are so appreciative of Deacon Jack Fernan and Matt Sande of Pro-Life Wisconsin who led us in solemn prayer, song, and Scripture readings near the grave of an unnamed aborted child. We were blessed with a beautiful day and cooler temperatures, topped off with a swirling cloud formation in the shape of a dove (Holy Spirit?) which was spotted as we were all leaving!

Winged Clouds

We still have 1 1/2 weeks in our 365 for Life schedule and then 40 Days for Life begins on Sept. 25th. Can you take some time for prayer out at Planned Parenthood where MORE unnamed babies are aborted? How can we be too busy for these helpless innocents, created in God’s image and likeness?

“Rescue those who are being dragged to death….If you say, “I know not this man!” does not he who tests hearts perceive it? He who guards your life knows it, and he will repay each one according to his deeds.” Proverbs 24:8-12

ALERT: There have been several instances of a man approaching people on the sidewalk asking for money. His story varies but often has the theme of needing help for a family member. When help is offered in a way not involving money, he backs off. It is probably unwise to give him money; he knows why we’re out there and is seeking those with kind hearts. A distinctive trait in his description – pierced ears with large holes. Please keep him in your prayers….

Turnaways From Planned Parenthood

“Ask and you shall receive….seek and you shall find….knock and the door shall be opened.”

The power of prayer was evident again last week with 3 more turnaways from the Planned Parenthood abortuary! One mother, knowing for certain she was pregnant, was scheduled for her first appointment and on the path for an abortion. Two more women opted to go across the street that same day….Praise God! All went over to the Women’s Care Center learning that avenues other than abortion exist.

Recently the Women’s Care Center reported that, since their opening in January 2012, 50 babies have been saved! Prayers answered!

We need your prayers to add to this number; check out the number of open hours below…..

Open Hours This Week – PLEASE HELP!

Can you take an hour or more this week to pray on the sidewalk? There are MANY openings and many souls for whom to pray. It is our duty; it is Our Lord’s command.

Dear Friends,

If you haven’t seen last Monday’s Pro-Life Wisconsin Update Newsletter, please take the time to check it out. As you may have heard, abortion rates in Wisconsin dropped in 2012 to the lowest rates since Roe vs. Wade in 1973. Listed in the reasons….”The increased presence of Pro-Life Wisconsin’s sidewalk counselors and volunteers, along with participation in campaigns such as 40 Days for Life, outside of abortion clinics helps women choose life for their child.”

The newsletter continues with a heartfelt story, a first-hand experience of praying outside Affiliated Medical Services in Milwaukee, written by Emma Scuglik, Pro-Life Wisconsin’s Development Director. The horror and ourtrage of being misinterpreted as an abortion client changed to prayer and love for the misinformed who think they are helping women as they escort them into the clinic.

And be sure to read the commentary on the 8 Outrageous Things Planned Parenthood was caught doing!

Taking money to abort African-American babies
Offering sex-selective abortions
Misinforming women about scientific facts of pregnancy
Lying about abortion-related deaths
Lying about offering mammograms
Covering up child sex-trafficking
Illegally not reporting child rape
Lobbying against protections for babies born alive after failed abortions
Is there any question that our presence and prayer on the sidewalk is needed and is working? Go to http://www.prolifewisconsin.org/MONUPD_files/August262013monupd.html to view these well-written articles.

THEN….SIGN UP FOR HOURS THIS WEEK!

AND THEN….SIGN UP FOR HOURS FOR 40 DAYS FOR LIFE!

This is the way to shut them down, to close their doors permanently!

Open Hours This Week – Can You Help?

We will be on our “365 for Life” schedule until Wednesday, Sept. 25th, when our fall 40 Days for Life campaign will begin. Can you help fill the following hours?

Tuesday, 9/03/13: 1 needed at noon; 2 needed at 1:00, 3:00, and 4:00pm. 7 hours open! Only 56% filled!

Wednesday, 9/04/13: 1 needed at 2:00pm; 2 needed at 11:00, 1:00, 3:00, 4:00, and 5:00pm 11 OPEN HOURS!! Only 45% filled!

Thursday, 9/05/13: 1 needed at 1:00, 2:00, and 3:00pm

Open Hours For 40 Days for Life – Can You Help?

We are making progress in filling hours before the campaign starts on Wednesday, Sept. 25th, but we still have a long way to go!

We need parishes and groups to commit to a weekly 2-hour time slot – only 4 people per week. If many respond, this will be a piece of cake!
Individuals are also encouraged to sign up – Invite a friend or familly member! We are especially in need of weekend hours to be filled – please consider what your prayer and presence can mean to a young mother who feels there is no other way than an abortion at Planned Parenthood!
This year we are calling on men to pray out on the sidewalk in the evening and overnight hours, to step up and defend the familly. Can you sign up with a buddy for a 2-hour time slot each week from 6pm to 8am? Can your KC council commit? Some have done so already; if yours hasn’t, check the calendar and see what’s open, especially on the weekends! We’re talking about a short-term commitment – only 6 weeks!
Go to vigilforlife.org/calendar/monthview to see the vigil schedule. You can also call Bette Weisshaar at 608-358-5963 with questions or email at info@vigilforlife.org to sign up.

Dear Prayer Warriors,

We are only one month away from the start of our fall 40 Days for Life campaign. Have you thought about what you can do to contribute to this life-saving, life-changing worldwide effort?

Can you help make needed phone calls to invite our past 40 Days for Life prayer warriors to join this fall’s campaign? Much help is needed here!
Can you be a vigil captain making calls to fill hours? We still have no vigil captain for Sunday; there are only 6 Sundays involved.
Have you called a friend to sign up for an hour or 2 each week, especially one who is new to 40 Days for Life?
Has your group (Bible study, Rosary group, etc.) discussed a weekly shift when you could commit to praying out at Planned Parenthood where prayers are so desperately needed?
MEN – Have you called a buddy and selected a weekly time slot? Can your men’s group sign up for a 2-hour or more weekly shift? After dark, night time, overnight hours are NOT times for women to be out on the sidewalk alone, praying! We need you to step up, come out, and defend life and the family! Keep in mind that this is only for about 6 weeks (Sept. 25 to Nov. 3) – can you give to God in return for all he has given YOU?
Many hours remain open; there are many from which to choose. You CAN sign up now! “Can you not watch one hour with Me?”

THERE ARE 2 GOALS HERE:

TO HAVE A LOT OF PEOPLE DOING A LITTLE SO THAT A FEW AREN’T DOING A LOT
TO FILL CALENDAR HOURS NOW TO MINIMIZE PHONE CALLING LATER
Go to vigilforlife.org/calendar/monthview, call Bette Weisshaar at 608-358-5963 or email at info@vigilforlife.org to sign up for hours.

Dear Friends,

Last week I shared some not uncommon thoughts and experiences of prayer warriors out in the trenches at Planned Parenthood. The one I’d like to connect you with this week was written by Steve Karlen after his shift last Wednesday, a very busy abortion day. If you haven’t been out to pray at Planned Parenthood, Steve’s account will give you a glimpse of triumph and heartbreak, both allowed by God that day, both part of the battle in spiritual warfare. Be sure to read this beautiful, powerful story of how prayer and witness work hand in hand! You can find it by clicking on the link below. Then, PLEASE, sign up and fill every needed hour to counteract the culture of death!

“Amid all the crimes one can commit against life, procured abortion has characteristics that render it especially grave and detestable…yet in our day…people have gradually lost sight of how serious it is.” (The Gospel of Life, 58)

Dear Friends,

Have you ever had one of those days when you signed up for prayer time at Planned Parenthood and wished you could get out of it? One of those days where you wonder if it’s worth going because “It’s not going to make any difference anyway”? Probably this thought crosses a prayer warrior’s mind more than you think.

Over the weekend I spoke with one who wrestled with these thoughts and filled her assigned hours last Friday anyway. If you’ve ever heard David Bereit, one of the founders of 40 Days for Life, speak on his start in the pro-life movement, you’ll hear a common theme: “I didn’t want to do it, but I did it anyway!”

What an afternoon she had! The blessings flowed!

A woman who initially pulled into the Planned Parenthood parking lot, crossed the street to the Women’s Care Center after speaking with the sidewalk counselor. As she left to go home, she waved and smiled.
Another lady was open to receiving pro-life literature as was a young girl to listening about natural family planning.
A mother stopped by to tell how her daughter left Planned Parenthood after being treated in a rude manner, went to the Women’s Care Center, and loved it!
A man stopped by to offer food and drink to the sidewalk counselors in gratitude for their kindness and prayers.
A woman in a white lab coat who works at Planned Parenthood stopped to talk and was given literature on alternative job opportunities with “And Then There Were None”, a resource for employees who’d like to leave Planned Parenthood created by former Planned Parenthood director, Abby Johnson.
THIS is what happens when you answer the call to obedience!

“All your duties are obediences….And to do what he bids is to obey him….The day will come when he will….show himself to us. And then, according as we have waited for him, will he recompense us. If we have forgotten him, he will not know us; but “blessed are those servants whom the Lord, when he comes, shall find watching. May this be the portion of every one of us! It is hard to attain it; but it is woeful to fail. Life is short; death is certain and the world to come is everlasting.” (Blessed John Henry Newman)

DUTY CALLS! What are YOU doing to obey this call? We’ve been given our duty and life, including our own eternal life, depends on a “yes” answer!

VFL email 8.4.2013

Dear Friends,

Last Wednesday God blessed us with a saved baby and a fruitful volunteer meeting! If you missed it, please read Friday’s email for details of a mother leaving the waiting room of Planned Parenthood and thanking a child who prayed outside with her family. Amazing story! That evening we held our fall 40 Days for Life volunteer meeting with Fr. Rick Heilman and Jim Ball, the 40 Days for Life leader in Green Bay, as our guests. We had about 40 in attendance.

But Wednesday, July 31st, was a very special day for a third reason!

Our volunteer meeting coincided with the closing day of Green Bay’s abortion clinic and the leader of the men and women who prayed on the sidewalks for this closure was our speaker. Coincidence? I don’t think so….more likely, God’s Providence! We too have a mission to close Planned Parenthood in Madison and God brought Jim here to help. At the meeting, Jim stressed the need for us to grow our base as he did in Green Bay. He fills his 40 Days for Life vigil hours before the campaign even starts!

Here is his plan – We are going to try it!

40 Days for Life begins on Wednesday, Sept. 25th and ends on Sunday, Nov. 3rd. Hours on the sidewalk are filled by parishes/churches/groups/individuals signing up for a 2-hour time slot between 8:00am and 6:00pm each week during 40 Days for Life. This is ONLY 5 or 6 shifts during the entire vigil! The 6:00pm to 8:00am shifts are filled by men; Jim calls this the Sleep No More part of the campaign: “….men need to stand near the killing field to serve, protect, and defend the family, the cornerstone of a rightly-ordered society.” Further explanation about the day and night hours is below; you can also call me with questions.

We need your help to fill our schedule NOW before 40 Days starts. The meeting elicited a good response but there are still vacant positions that need filling:

Church Liaisons – with the approval of your pastor, choose a 2 hour time slot each week during 40 Days for Life. Call 4 people per week from your church to fill the slot, 2 people per hour. When you think about the size of your parish, this is not asking a lot! Post flyers and bulletin announcements.
Sleep No More Men – get a group of men to take a weekly shift (2 hours or more). Examples: Knights of Columbus, Knights of Divine Mercy, That Man is You, Bible Study Groups, etc. This also is not too demanding if enough men participate.
Vigil Captains – We will still have vigil captains to call our list and fill any hours not filled by liaisons or Sleep No More men. The captains choose a day of the week for which they are responsible. I have no one for Sundays during 40 Days and would like to have 2 captains per day, if possible, to share the phone calling.
Emergency Coverage during day-time (8am to 6pm) and night-time (6pm to 8am) hours – If you can jump in and cover for someone who can’t make their hour due to illness, emergency, etc., this would be a huge help!
Volunteer Callers – help call our list of past 40 Days for Life participants and invite them to come back for this fall’s campaign. We have a prepared script for you to read.
These are general descriptions of what you can do to help; you can call or email me if you’d like more specific information on a position.

The main point I’m trying to etch in your mind is this: We need a lot of people doing a little so a few people aren’t doing a lot! What is God calling YOU to do to close Planned Parenthood here in Madison?

“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” (Luke 10:2)
Open Hours – Save A Child This Week By Praying at Planned Parenthood, Orin Rd.!

Tuesday, 8/06/13: 1 needed at 10:00, noon, 1:00, and 2:00pm; 2 needed at 3:00, and 4:00pm 8 hours open! Only 50% filled!

Wednesday, 8/07/13: 1 needed at 10:00, 1:00, and 2:00pm; 2 needed at 8:00, 9:00, 11:00, noon, 3:00, 4:00, and 5:00pm 17 OPEN HOURS!! Only 15% filled!

Thursday, 8/08/13: 1 needed at 1:00, 3:00, 4:00, and 5:00pm
