We had sidewalk counselor training this past Thursday evening.  We were blessed to have Laura Karlen (Vigil for Life Board President and sidewalk counselor), Mary Markielewski (Vigil for Life Board member and seasoned sidewalk counselor) and Kila Hagie (Women’s Care Center Director) present different parts of our training.  Kila mentioned that when young mothers come into the Women’s Care Center they often say, “They (meaning all those praying or sidewalk counseling on the sidewalk) told me you could help me.  Can you help me?”  That’s when the staff at the Women’s Care Center shows just how helpful they are to mothers in crisis pregnancies.

Last week Friday a couple was about to turn into Planned Parenthood’s parking lot when they saw a Vigil for Life witness walking (and praying on) the sidewalk.  Immediately upon seeing this witness for life the couple turned back to the street and kept driving past Planned Parenthood.  As Abby Johnson has mentioned, 75% of appointments are not kept at abortion facilities that have people witnessing for life in front of them. Praise God!

Dear Friend of Vigil for Life,

Sidewalk counselors are the last line of defense for abortion or contraception-bound women and men. That might seem like a daunting task. Does it require an advanced degree, a license or some sort of certification?

Hello Friends of Vigil for Life!

We hope you are all well and still celebrating the Easter Season!  We have two important announcements to share with you!

1. “We’re Hiring!”: The Vigil for Life board of directors is pleased to announce that we’re hiring a part-time executive director! Although this will be a salaried position, we are planning on paying roughly $12.75 per hour for 15 hours per week. The executive director will work with our volunteer director (Gwen Finnegan) and the board of directors to expand our prayerful presence each business day that Planned Parenthood is open (“365 for Life”) and during the fall 40 Days for Life campaign. This position will be a work-from-home arrangement with local travel to network with current and prospective pro-life volunteers. Join the team to help END abortion and save lives in Dane County and beyond! Please pass along the position description. 2. “Bishop Morlino Presents”: Bishop Robert Morlino will be addressing the ethical and moral problems with gestational surrogacy — wombs  for hire — at Holy Family Catholic Parish in Waterloo, WI (205 Milwaukee Avenue Waterloo, WI 53594). There is a surrogacy agency on the main street in Waterloo. Please join us for this public presentation on Thursday, May 18th at 7 p.m. to better understand a new front in the pro-life movement.

One of our sidewalk counselors was able to send a young woman over to the Women’s Care Center instead of her going into Planned Parenthood on Tuesday of this past week. Thanks be to God!

The other week while out on the sidewalk, the pastor from a Baptist church in Reedsburg who brings his pro-life group with him to pray outside of PP every Wednesday morning stopped by.  He said he was on his way to meet with a young mother whom they were able to help choose life for her baby.  The baby is now almost 2 years old.  They have been keeping in touch with this young woman the whole time.  They had also been able to evangelize this young woman and introduce her to a pastor at a church in Madison where she now worships.  To top it all off, they were about to introduce the father of the child (who had just been released from jail) to the same pastor.  What an inspiring story!
